If you live in Arizona, you might have seen this video without knowing it was my work!

In November of 2022, Arizona voters had the chance to make history for their state by Passing Proposition 308. Prop 308 would allow Arizona Dreamers access to in-state tuition, expanding pathways to higher education for 2,000 students each year. As part of a campaign led by the Phoenix-based nonprofit Aliento, and in partnership with them, TFA Phoenix, the Immigration and Education Alliance at Teach For America, and local student Karla Daniela Salazar Chavira, the my team created a video to show voters how Prop 308 could change the lives of thousands of Arizona students. Our video ended up reaching over 400,000 people. It was shared widely on social media and even got picked up and shared by local politicians. We were all nervous on election day, the outcome of the election was too close to call for days. Finally, it was announced that Prop 308 passed, receiving 51% of the vote—only 60,442 more votes for it than against. The margin of victory was small, but the impact will be life-changing for many and it was immediately felt by students who could, within weeks, access in-state tuition. I am inspired by all those who led this campaign and incredibly proud to have directed a video that played a small part in a monumental effort to make education more equitable in our country.

Watch this video and be inspired by the courage, composure, and vulnerability of this incredible student who shared her life’s story to help open a new chapter in the lives of thousands of Arizona high-schoolers.
