Joel Serin-Christ is a filmmaker, producer, writer, and educator who tells stories for social impact. His films have been screened widely, most notably at the San Francisco Film Festival. He launched Teach For America’s award-winning One Day Video and Film Studio to tell stories about youth, educators, and advocates who are working to make our education system more equitable for all children. Recently his work has focused on passing the mic to youth who are leading positive change in their communities.
As a producer and manager of creative projects, Joel brings strong vision and detailed organization to his work. He draws on his experience as a teacher, professional coach, and university professor to create clear and engaging processes for organization and collaboration.
Joel has over a decade of community and audience engagement experience. He has developed outreach and communication strategies that have extended the reach and grown the audience of Teach For America’s editorial content. He led the design and launch of Teach For America’s first digital magazine and oversaw all digital publishing, design updates, and digital enhancements for the standalone site. During his time working for Teach For America’s One Day magazine, he wrote feature stories for print that reached over 70,000 people three times yearly.
For his next chapter, Joel wants to expand the subjects of his stories to explore people’s relationship to nature. Is the delineation we’ve made between humans and other life on earth as clear as we think it is? What can we learn from looking more closely at the places where our lives and nature overlap? Stay tuned for more here.
